Gillespie Criticizes Pakistan Cricket Board and Aaqib Javed

Former Pakistan Test coach Jason Gillespie has launched a strong critique of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and chairman of selectors Aaqib Javed, citing a significant loss of authority during his tenure and claiming the board still owes him thousands of dollars. Gillespie, who stepped down as Pakistan's Test coach in December 2024 after an eight-month stint, advised incoming red-ball coach Mike Hesson to "trust your instincts and don't be a yes man," drawing from his own "deeply frustrating" experience. Gillespie stated that his role and influence diminished significantly after Aaqib Javed was appointed chairman of selectors. Initially tasked with overseeing the Test side, including players, staff, and selection, Gillespie said Javed's arrival fundamentally altered his responsibilities, leaving him with "absolutely no role in anything." He accused Javed of undermining him, describing the situation as a "mess" and asserting that "as long as he is there, then Pakistan cricket will continue to go backwards.
