Germany tests Israeli LORA missile

Germany successfully test-fired an Israeli-made LORA ballistic missile from a naval frigate in the North Atlantic overnight, marking the country's first-ever launch of such a weapon from a ship and signaling a significant step in its efforts to bolster long-range strike capabilities. The trial, conducted on September 2, 2026, involved a LORA missile manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries and was launched from the F125 frigate Sachsen-Anhalt. German Navy chief Vice Admiral Jan Christian Kaack described the test as a success and a historic moment. "With the successful launch of a ballistic missile last night in the North Atlantic, we have made naval history," Kaack said. He added that the system's potential range exceeds anything previously available to the fleet and that the trial "marks a new chapter in deterrence and maritime defense readiness." The LORA, which stands for Long Range Attack, is a quasiballistic precision missile that can be fired from land or sea. Officials stated it has a range of up to 500 kilometers (310 miles).
