German Police Probe Suspected Arson at Munich Defence Firm

German authorities are investigating a suspected arson attack outside the Munich headquarters of defence technology firm Rohde Schwarz, an incident that has heightened concerns over the vulnerability of critical infrastructure across Europe. Police arrested two Bulgarian nationals in connection with the overnight attack, which occurred amid a series of recent sabotage attempts and escalating diplomatic tensions between Germany and Russia. The attack took place around midnight on Thursday, September 3, 2026, when incendiary devices were thrown from a car onto a construction site near the premises of Rohde Schwarz, a company that supplies radar and communications systems to the German military and other security agencies. The drone manufacturer Helsing, which supplies the Ukrainian armed forces, also has its headquarters opposite the site. Police confirmed that one device ignited and was extinguished by officers, while a bomb disposal team defused a second. No injuries were reported, and the fire caused no significant damage to the company's facilities.
