Geely Claims 4.5-Minute EV Charging With 2.25 MW System

Geely says its new electric-vehicle charging system can take a battery from 10% to 70% in 4 minutes 30 seconds and from 10% to 97% in 8 minutes 40 seconds, using peak power of 2.25 megawatts. The Chinese automaker unveiled the system on September 23 as it competes with BYD and other manufacturers to shorten charging times. The performance figures are Geely’s claims and have not been independently verified in the supplied reports. The company says the system pairs its charging equipment with a high-rate battery and uses artificial intelligence and liquid cooling to manage heat. Geely has described a coordinated cooling setup spanning charging equipment and vehicle components, alongside AI tools that monitor battery conditions and adjust charging. The system’s output is substantially higher than that of most public charging stations, which can limit how widely the claimed speeds are available without compatible vehicles and infrastructure. Geely also says pulse-restoration technology can address battery damage associated with repeated fast charging and increase battery cycle life by 20%. That longevity benefit has not been independently established.
