GB&I Wins Walker Cup for First Time in 11 Years

Great Britain and Ireland have won the Walker Cup for the first time in 11 years, completing a dramatic comeback against the United States on Sunday afternoon at Lahinch Golf Club. The biennial team competition concluded with a narrow 13.5 to 12.5 victory for the hosts, ending a streak of five consecutive wins for the U.S. and marking GB&I's first triumph since 2015. Entering the final singles session, the United States held a seemingly commanding 9.5 to 6.5 lead. However, GB&I staged a historic rally, securing seven of the available 10 points in the singles matches to clinch the championship. The momentum shifted dramatically in the early singles matches. GB&I swept the first four contests, including a significant victory by U.S. Amateur champion Jack Whaley. Luke Poulter, son of former professional Ian Poulter, secured a 3 and 1 win, while Tyler Weaver defeated Jay Leng Jr. 4 and 3. These early successes, combined with a halved match, propelled GB&I into the lead by a single point. The latter half of the singles lineup continued the spirited surge.
