Gaza Deadliest for Aid Workers 3rd Year

Gaza was the deadliest location for humanitarian workers for a third consecutive year in 2025, with 186 aid workers killed, the United Nations reported on Wednesday. The figure, released to mark World Humanitarian Day, underscores a persistent and deadly crisis for those delivering aid in conflict zones. Sudan ranked second, with 71 aid workers killed during the year, according to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, or OCHA. The data, compiled by the Aid Worker Security Database, shows that 350 humanitarian workers were killed worldwide in 2025. While this represents a slight decrease from the 377 killed in 2024, the overall level of violence remained alarmingly high. In total, 907 aid workers were killed, injured, or kidnapped in 2025, setting a new record for violent incidents against humanitarian personnel. An additional 322 workers were injured and 235 were kidnapped. "More than 1,000 aid workers have been killed in just three years and that is utterly unacceptable," said Tom Fletcher, the U.N. undersecretary-general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator.
