Gary Glitter pleads not guilty to historic abuse charges

Gary Glitter, the 82-year-old British glam rock singer whose real name is Paul Gadd, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to eight historical sexual abuse charges. The pleas were entered at Southwark Crown Court in London, where Gadd appeared via video link from HMP Channing Wood in Devon. The charges relate to alleged offenses against a girl between 1978 and 1981, when she was between the ages of eight and 11. Gadd denied four counts of indecent assault, two counts of indecency with a child, and two counts of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13. He responded "absolutely not guilty" to two of the charges and "not guilty" to the remaining six. Prosecutors allege that Gadd gave the girl chocolate and invited her to his home in Kensington and Chelsea, west London, where the offenses occurred. Specific allegations include causing the girl to touch his genitals and engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse. One report indicated at least 20 incidents of alleged abuse. The case was adjourned for a three-week trial scheduled to begin on November 22, 2027. Judge Tony Baumgartner presided over the hearing.
