G7 Demands Iran End Houthi Support, Condemns Attacks on Saudi Arabia

The Group of Seven foreign ministers have jointly condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and civilian shipping, demanding Iran end its support for the Yemeni militant group. The statement, issued on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, represents a unified diplomatic front as the conflict in Yemen escalates with significant Houthi territorial gains along the Red Sea coast. The G7 ministers called on the Houthis to "immediately cease all military actions, all threats and attacks against civilian shipping, and to return to the political process in good faith." They also urged Iran "to end its arming of and support for the Houthis," alleging Tehran is in violation of UN Security Council resolutions. Iran has previously denied supplying weapons to the Houthis, stating its support is only political. The diplomatic move comes amid a rapid military advance by the Iran-backed Houthis, who have seized control of Yemen's entire Red Sea coastline, including the strategic port city of Mokha and the vital Bab al-Mandab strait. This maritime chokepoint, through which vessels travel from the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, is a critical global shipping route.
