FSU Considers Rehiring Jimbo Fisher as Norvell's Seat Heats

Florida State University is reportedly exploring the possibility of rehiring former head coach Jimbo Fisher should the program decide to dismiss current coach Mike Norvell, according to multiple reports. Fisher, who led the Seminoles to the 2013 BCS national championship, is said to be eager to return to Tallahassee. The speculation arises amid significant struggles for Norvell, whose team is 1-1 in the 2026 season following a narrow 27-24 loss to SMU. Norvell's record since the start of 2024 stands at 8-18, and his contract includes a buyout estimated between $48 million and $51 million if fired without cause. Fisher's previous tenure at Florida State spanned eight seasons from 2010 to 2017, during which he achieved an 83-23 record and won the national title. He abruptly left for Texas A&M in 2017, a move that still stings for many fans. At Texas A&M, Fisher compiled a 45-25 record over six seasons but was fired in 2023 with a record-breaking $77.5 million buyout. Reports indicate that Fisher "really wants the job" at Florida State and has remained visible in the area, including appearing on ACC Network's "ACC Huddle" from the university's campus before the SMU game.
