Four adults and child rescued from Edinburgh flat roof fire

Firefighters rescued four adults and a child from a four-storey block of flats in Edinburgh after a fire broke out in the roof of the building on Thursday morning. The blaze erupted at Ferry Gait Place in the Muirhouse area of the city shortly after 10am on September 10, 2026, with flames seen tearing through the roof structure. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched six fire appliances and a high-reach vehicle to the scene as crews tackled the blaze. According to the service, firefighters removed four adults and one child from one property, and the five were passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. An ambulance service spokesperson said crews received a call at 10.07am to attend a building fire at Ferry Gait, Edinburgh, and that two ambulances, two special operations response teams, a paramedic response car and a critical care paramedic were dispatched. Five patients were assessed and discharged at the scene. All other flats in the building were evacuated, while residents of neighbouring and adjacent properties were advised to keep their doors and windows closed.
