Formula 2 unveils new car for 2027-2029 seasons

Formula 2 has unveiled its new challenger car, set to compete from the 2027 through the 2029 seasons. The reveal took place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in the Formula 1 paddock at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza during the Italian Grand Prix weekend. This next-generation machine is designed to further solidify Formula 2's role as the primary stepping stone to Formula 1, enhancing driver preparation and promoting closer racing. The new car retains the existing Dallara chassis, a decision aimed at managing costs, while featuring redesigned front and rear wings. These aerodynamic updates are intended to improve the ability of cars to follow each other closely on track and bring the F2 car's appearance more in line with current Formula 1 design philosophies. A significant technical addition is the onboard starter system, which will allow drivers to restart their cars independently after a spin or stall, reducing race disruptions. Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali emphasized the car's importance in developing future talent.
