Former Utah Postal Carrier Indicted Over Discarded Ballots

A former U.S. Postal Service letter carrier in Utah has been federally indicted on charges that he discarded mail, including about 300 mail-in ballots intended for voters in Eagle Mountain, ahead of the state's June 23 primary. Damon Matai Seei, 34, of Payson, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Sept. 16 on a charge of unlawful secretion, destruction and delay of mail, according to the Justice Department. The indictment was unsealed Tuesday, when Seei was arrested and arraigned at the Orrin G. Hatch U.S. Courthouse in Salt Lake City. He pleaded not guilty. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 30. Prosecutors allege that on June 3, 2026, Seei was assigned to deliver mail, advertisements and election materials to at least 300 residents of Eagle Mountain. Among the mail were hundreds of ballots clearly marked as election mail for the June 23 primary. According to prosecutors, Seei separated the ballots from the rest of his route shortly after beginning his shift, delivered none of them, and discarded the mail in a dumpster in a church parking lot within roughly 90 minutes of starting his route.
