Former NASCAR driver Gary Myers dies at 76

Former NASCAR driver Gary Myers, a member of a four-generation racing family, has died at the age of 76. His family confirmed his passing on social media, prompting tributes from across the motorsports community. Myers died on Thursday night, according to his son Burt Myers. The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed. Burt Myers shared an emotional tribute on Facebook, writing, "Last night I lost my hero... My daddy is in Heaven and can finally do the things he wanted to do the last several years." He added, "He taught me everything I know. Selfishly I want him here but I know he is much better off now." Jason Myers, another of Gary's sons, also honored his father in a statement, calling him his "best friend" and "patriarch" who "taught him and Burt everything they know." Gary Myers had a long career in stock car racing. He made his NASCAR Winston Cup Series debut in 1974 and competed in 47 races at the premier level over a five-year period. He was also a founding member of the SMART Modified Tour and won its championship in 1996, recording 15 victories on the tour.
