He hired Tom Coughlin as head coach in 2004 and orchestrated a draft-day trade that brought quarterback Eli Manning to New York. The trade, which involved sending Philip Rivers and several draft picks to the San Diego Chargers, is widely regarded as a pivotal move that led to the Giants' Super Bowl victories in the 2007 and 2011 seasons.
