Former Child Actresses' Deaths Spark Hollywood Reform Calls

Published 22 August 2026

The deaths of three former child actresses within the past year have prompted a public outcry from fellow performers, who are calling on Hollywood to address systemic failures in protecting its youngest stars. The recent passing of Hayden Panettiere, following those of Michelle Trachtenberg and Daveigh Chase, has led actresses Anna Paquin and Melissa Gilbert to speak out about the long-term toll of early fame and the industry's responsibility. Panettiere, 36, was found unresponsive at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 16. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
