Fitzpatrick Uncomfortable with Middle East Golf Playoffs Amid Conflict

Matt Fitzpatrick, the defending champion, has voiced discomfort about traveling to the Middle East for the DP World Tour playoffs in November, citing ongoing regional conflict and personal reasons. Speaking at the BMW PGA Championship, Fitzpatrick said, "Being completely honest as things stand right now, I would say I'm not that comfortable." He explained that the recent birth of his child in August has altered his perspective on travel safety. The DP World Tour's season-ending playoffs are scheduled to begin with the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship from November 5-8, followed by the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai the following week. These events will decide the Race to Dubai title, with purses of 9 million and 10 million respectively, and a 2 million bonus for the champion. Fitzpatrick, who won the 2025 DP World Tour Championship in a playoff against Rory McIlroy, is the No. 3 player in the world. Fitzpatrick criticized the tour for not making a final decision on the playoff locations, despite his management being informed in April that a decision would be made by June. "It's obviously frustrating that the decision hasn't been made so you can plan what's going on," he said.
