FIA Court Reinstates Penalties, Gasly Loses Podium

The FIA's International Court of Appeal has reinstated two five-second penalties for pit lane speeding against Alpine driver Pierre Gasly, stripping him of his third-place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix. The controversy stems from the Monaco Grand Prix held on June 7, 2026. Gasly crossed the finish line in third place, but was initially penalized for two separate pit lane speeding infringements. However, Alpine successfully petitioned for a review, arguing that inaccuracies in the timing system's measurement of the pit lane length cast doubt on the validity of the penalties. FIA stewards subsequently overturned the penalties on June 12, restoring Gasly to third and promoting McLaren's Oscar Piastri to fourth, with Red Bull's Hadjar dropping to fourth. This decision prompted appeals from McLaren and Red Bull, who argued that overturning Gasly's penalties created an unfair disparity for drivers who had already served their penalties during the race.
