Fervo Signs Record 396MW Geothermal Deal With Google
Fervo Energy has signed what it describes as the world's largest enhanced geothermal power purchase agreement, securing a deal to supply Google with 396 megawatts of carbon-free electricity from its Cape Station project in southwestern Utah. The agreement, announced on September 1, 2026, includes an option for Google to expand its power purchases to nearly 1 gigawatt by mid-2030. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028. The deal marks a significant milestone for enhanced geothermal technology, which uses techniques like horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing to create geothermal reservoirs in hot rock, rather than relying on naturally occurring steam vents.
