Published 4 November 2026

Fenerbahce came from behind twice to defeat Liverpool 3-2 in Istanbul on November 4, ending the visitors’ perfect start to the Champions League league phase. Vedat Muriqi scored the winner in the 79th minute, ten minutes after Liverpool had taken the lead for a second time. Trey Nyoni put Liverpool ahead in the 25th minute with a volley that took a deflection. Mason Greenwood equalised four minutes later with a free kick that also deflected, leaving the teams level at halftime. Liverpool regained the lead in the 69th minute when Alexander Isak headed in a cross from Cody Gakpo. Fenerbahce responded four minutes later: after a short corner, N’Golo Kante sent the ball across goal and Gakpo’s touch diverted it to Archie Brown, who scored at the far post. Brown then helped create the decisive goal. After a long throw was sent into the penalty area, he returned the ball into the box and Muriqi headed past goalkeeper Alisson. Liverpool pushed for another equaliser but could not score again. The defeat ended Liverpool’s run of three wins from their first three league-phase matches. They had nine points after four games, while Fenerbahce recorded their first victory of this campaign...
