Female Cheetah Released at Gandhi Sagar to Boost Breeding

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav released a female cheetah, designated CCB2, into a specially designed enclosure at the Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary on September 20, 2026. The move is a strategic effort to boost breeding and genetic diversity at India's second cheetah habitat. The release, part of the ongoing Project Cheetah, was conducted at the sanctuary in Neemuch district. CCB2, a cheetah originally from Botswana, was translocated from Kuno National Park, where she had been housed since her arrival in India in February 2026. Wildlife authorities stated the relocation was necessary because the sanctuary's existing female cheetah, Dheera, had not conceived with the two male cheetahs, Prabhas and Pavak, already present at the site. The addition of CCB2 brings the cheetah population at Gandhi Sagar to four individuals, creating a more balanced group of two males and two females. Officials noted that a higher number of females typically facilitates breeding.
