The inquiry involves federal prosecutors in New York and FBI agents, according to people familiar with the matter. A senior law-enforcement official said witness interviews have been underway but could not confirm which allegations investigators are examining or provide a timeline. The Justice Department declined to confirm or deny the existence of an investigation, saying it does not comment on investigations. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York also declined to comment. Daniel Ruzumna, an attorney for Indyke and Kahn, said the men had not been subpoenaed or asked to speak with federal prosecutors and had not been told they were subjects or targets of an investigation.
