FCT Police Detain Officers Over N40,000 Extortion

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has identified and detained officers accused of extorting 40,000 naira from a businessman along Wuye Utako Road in Abuja. The incident, which occurred on August 20, 2026, gained widespread attention after a video of the encounter was shared on social media around August 24. In the video, the businessman alleged that officers stopped his vehicle near Salem Church and accused him of covering his car's number plate, a claim he denied. He stated the officers demanded a 50,000 naira bribe, which he negotiated down to 40,000 naira before paying.
