FBI's most wanted fraudster Bedi arrested in India

Manjit Singh Bedi, an Indian-born naturalized U.S. citizen, was arrested in Jalandhar, Punjab, on Friday, September 4, 2026, just one day after the FBI added him to its Most Wanted Fraudsters list. The 65-year-old was apprehended by the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police in the Paragpur area of the city, marking the fifth capture under the FBI's newly launched initiative. Bedi is accused of defrauding the U.S. government of at least $600,000 through a scheme involving the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. According to the FBI, he operated a small grocery store called Asian Grocery Store in Tacoma, Washington. The alleged fraud scheme ran from March 2024 to June 2025. Investigators claim that instead of selling food to SNAP beneficiaries using their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards, Bedi swiped the cards and provided customers with cash. He allegedly kept approximately half of the money from these transactions for himself. Bedi was indicted on charges including wire fraud and SNAP benefits fraud. Following the indictment, he was allowed to appear in court without being taken into custody.
