FA weighs action after Manchester City ruling

Published 2 October 2026

The Football Association said Friday it is assessing the independent commission’s ruling against Manchester City and will take action if appropriate, citing significant implications for the integrity of the game. The club has denied wrongdoing and indicated it will appeal, while a separate commission hearing on any punishment remains pending. The FA said proceedings involving the Premier League and Manchester City are ongoing and that it would not comment further for now. It also said it would continue monitoring developments. The statement does not specify what action the FA might take or when it could do so. The Premier League said an independent commission found City guilty of breaches of its financial rules covering 2009 to 2018. The ruling, published Tuesday, also found the club responsible for most of a group of charges related to failing to cooperate with the investigation, according to the reports. City has repeatedly denied guilt and has said it intends to challenge the decision. The accounts differ on the amount of revenue at issue. Some describe more than £830 million over nine years, while others report more than £1 billion over nearly a decade.
