F1 reveals 2027 calendar with Monaco Sprint and Middle East start

Formula 1 has unveiled a provisional 2027 calendar featuring 24 races and a record 10 Sprint events, with the Monaco Grand Prix set to host a Sprint for the first time. The season is scheduled to begin in the Middle East, but its viability remains uncertain due to ongoing regional conflict, with alternative venues on standby. The calendar, announced by the FIA and Formula One Management, confirms the return of Portugal and Turkey. The season is set to start with a Sprint weekend in Bahrain on March 14, followed by Saudi Arabia on March 21. This marks the first time Bahrain will stage the season opener since 2024. The most significant surprise is the addition of a Sprint race at the Monaco Grand Prix on June 5. The decision introduces variability to a weekend often criticized for limited overtaking. The Sprint format reduces practice time, potentially creating different grids for the Sprint and the main Grand Prix. The expanded Sprint schedule includes first-time hosts Bahrain, Australia, Japan, and Abu Dhabi, alongside returning venues Canada, Silverstone, Monza, Brazil, and Qatar.
