Ex-IGP Adamu named Nasarawa SDP gov candidate

Former Inspector General of Police Muhammed Abubakar Adamu has been declared the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Nasarawa State, following a replacement primary election held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in Lafia. The primary was conducted to replace Musa Adamu Angba, who had withdrawn from the race for the 2027 general election. The election was organized by the SDP's electoral committee and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Barrister Joseph Achille, Chairman of the SDP Electoral Committee for Nasarawa State, announced the results, stating that the exercise was conducted across all 13 local government areas of the state. He confirmed that a total of 28,637 delegates were present and cast their votes. Achille declared that Adamu scored the highest lawful valid votes and was therefore returned as the party's flagbearer. The process was described as free, fair, and credible. In his acceptance speech, Adamu outlined his priorities if elected, focusing on infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and the management of mineral resources.
