Evenepoel wins record fourth straight world time trial title

Remco Evenepoel secured a historic fourth consecutive men's elite individual time trial world title in Montreal on Sunday, cementing his status as the discipline's most dominant rider. The Belgian completed the 39.2-kilometer course in 44 minutes 53.13 seconds, finishing 57 seconds ahead of silver medalist Filippo Ganna of Italy. Paul Seixas of France claimed the bronze medal, finishing 1 minute 13 seconds behind Evenepoel. The victory establishes a new benchmark in the event, surpassing the previous record of four titles held by Tony Martin and Fabian Cancellara, though not achieved in consecutive years. Evenepoel was the fastest rider at every intermediate checkpoint, building an insurmountable lead. He reached the first checkpoint 9 seconds ahead of the field, extended his advantage to 34 seconds by the second, and held a 48-second lead over Ganna at the third checkpoint. He continued to gain time in the final section. The race's outcome was never in doubt after Evenepoel's dominant performance. Ganna, the 2020 and 2021 champion, finished second in 45:50.44. Seixas held the provisional best time for much of the finale before being overtaken by both Ganna and Evenepoel.
