Evan Rachel Wood Says Only Joey King Reached Out After Recasting

Evan Rachel Wood revealed that no one from the original "Practical Magic" cast or crew reached out to her after she was not asked to reprise her role for the sequel, with the exception of her replacement, Joey King. The comments, shared on Wood's Instagram Stories on September 1, came as the film's cast and director addressed the recasting decision at the Los Angeles premiere. Wood played Kylie Owens, one of Sandra Bullock's daughters, in the 1998 film. For "Practical Magic 2," which opens in theaters on September 10, the roles of Bullock's daughters have been recast with younger actors. Joey King now plays Kylie, and Maisie Williams plays Antonia, replacing Alexandra Artrip. Wood expressed her disappointment publicly earlier, stating she had offered to appear in any capacity but was told the role was being recast. "I really appreciated Joey King reaching out to me because no one who worked on the original film did," Wood wrote. "She's a sweetheart." King confirmed the conversation at the film's premiere on August 31. "I just was so appreciative of the support that she showed to me and to the rest of the cast," King told The Hollywood Reporter.
