EU Awards €387.8M Contract for LUMIAI AI Supercomputer in Finland
The European Union has awarded a €387.8 million contract to French state-owned Bull to build LUMIAI, a next-generation AI supercomputer to be installed in Kajaani, Finland. The system, expected to be operational in the second half of 2027, is designed to provide ten times the AI capacity and nearly double the high-performance computing capability of the existing LUMI supercomputer. The procurement contract was signed by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, the EU's supercomputing body, with Bull selected to build the sixth machine under its AI Factories programme.
