Enugu Police Probe Attacks on NDC Meeting and PDP Rally

The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, has ordered an investigation into the disruption of two separate political gatherings in the Nkanu West Local Government Area on Saturday, September 12, 2026. The police directive follows reports of armed attacks at a ward meeting of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and a rally for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to a statement from the police spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, the first incident occurred at the NdiunoObuoffia community. Armed hoodlums allegedly disrupted an NDC ward meeting with sporadic shooting, injuring two participants. The second incident took place at St. Joseph Primary School in Agbani, where hoodlums destroyed canopies and chairs prepared for a PDP rally. Police operatives were deployed to both scenes to prevent further violence and track down the suspects. The police noted that neither gathering had been notified to the command or requested security coverage beforehand. Commissioner Giwa reiterated his earlier warning to political parties that all activities must be conducted peacefully and in accordance with the law, stressing that electoral offences are punishable.
