Emmys In Memoriam Honors O'Hara, Parton, and Other Late Stars

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards featured an emotional In Memoriam segment on Monday night, honoring several notable figures from the television industry who died over the past year. The tribute was highlighted by personal remembrances for actress Catherine O'Hara and singer-songwriter Dolly Parton. Catherine O'Hara, who died on January 30 at age 71, was honored by her three onscreen children: Macaulay Culkin, Annie Murphy, and Dan Levy. Culkin, who played O'Hara's son in the Home Alone films, opened the tribute. "There are all kinds of words I could use to describe Catherine. She was encouraging. She was warm. She was funny. But the word that I think of is mama," Culkin said. "She wasn't just a wife and mother to Bo and Matthew and Luke. She was my mom. She was our mama. And by extension, she's all of our mama." Murphy, who played O'Hara's daughter Alexis on Schitts Creek, shared anecdotes about fans approaching her after O'Hara's death to share their memories. "After we lost Catherine, I was passed a note on an Air Canada flight that said, 'She was so special. I hope you're doing okay,'" Murphy recalled.
