Emma Heming Willis has offered new public reflections on caring for her husband, actor Bruce Willis, who has been living with frontotemporal dementia since his family announced the progression of his condition in 2023. The actor, 71, was first diagnosed with aphasia, which later developed into frontotemporal dementia, a group of diseases affecting the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. In an interview published on September 7, Heming Willis described the illness as devastating and said it leaves her constantly in a state of grief. She said that while everyone wants their loved ones to remain healthy and full of life, the disease takes things away slowly, making mourning a continuous experience. She also admitted that guilt is something she still struggles with daily, though she has learned not to let the feeling consume her, calling it a waste of time and energy. Heming Willis, who married Willis in 2009, has become his full-time caregiver. She told ABC News in August 2025 that Willis was moved into a separate home so that the house shared with their daughters, Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12, could be tailored to the children's needs.
