Emanuel Says Democratic Socialists Not Part of Democratic Party
Former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel declared on Sunday that he does not consider Democratic Socialists to be part of the Democratic Party, urging them to run as a separate political entity. The comments, made during an appearance on Fox News Sunday, represent a sharp public break with the party's left flank and come as Emanuel is widely seen as a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential nomination. Emanuel, who served as a senior advisor to President Barack Obama and later as mayor of Chicago, argued that the Democratic Socialists of America, or DSA, hold views that are fundamentally at odds with the mainstream Democratic platform.
