Election Commission removes extra Form 6 declaration in completed areas

The Election Commission of India has removed an additional Special Intensive Revision declaration from online Form 6 in states and Union Territories where the electoral-roll revision has been completed, restoring the standard registration form for new applicants in those areas. The declaration remains in place where the revision is underway, the Commission said. The change means applicants in areas where the exercise has concluded no longer need to provide the extra information linking themselves or their parents or grandparents to electoral rolls from an earlier intensive revision. They must still complete the statutory Form 6, prescribed under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, to apply for inclusion on the electoral roll. The Commission’s decision followed a September 26 meeting of its full membership. Afterward, it said the declaration was intended for the period of the Special Intensive Revision and that the forms prescribed under the rules would be used outside that period. The additional requirement continues in places where the revision is active.
