Election Commission announces SIR changes and ECINET review

The Election Commission said on September 26 that its major decisions on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls were approved unanimously, while announcing changes intended to ease document checks for voters and extending claims deadlines in Delhi and Maharashtra. The Commission also said it would review its ECINET digital system for compliance with relevant laws and rules. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi met in New Delhi and issued a statement covering the voter-roll revision, enrolment, the Commission’s internal procedures and a letter to the Cabinet Secretary. The Commission said its June 24, 2025, SIR order, as well as later schedules, had received unanimous approval. It also said the Supreme Court upheld the original order on May 27, 2026. The statement followed reports that Sandhu and Joshi had objected to some SIR-related decisions. The Commission said the letter to the Cabinet Secretary concerned the functioning of an officer on deputation, not Commission policy or its IT division.
