El-Rufai family gives Defence Minister 7 days

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, has been issued a seven-day ultimatum by the family of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to retract or substantiate allegations that El-Rufai deliberately planned killings in Southern Kaduna. The demand comes after Musa, speaking on Channels Television's "Politics Today" on September 3, 2026, accused El-Rufai of actions that deepened divisions and contributed to insecurity during his tenure as governor from 2015 to 2023. During the television interview, General Musa described the situation in Kaduna State during El-Rufai's administration as "toxic" and stated that residents of Southern Kaduna remained deeply unhappy with the former governor over killings recorded in the area. He alleged that El-Rufai "deliberately planned for the killing of our people" and also accused him of ordering the demolition of houses belonging to individuals with whom he had personal disagreements. In response, El-Rufai's family, through a statement signed by his eldest son, Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, expressed serious concern over the "grave allegation" made without evidence.
