Egypt's Sisi attends BRICS summit in New Delhi, meets Putin

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi arrived in New Delhi on Friday, September 11, 2026, to attend the 18th BRICS Summit, where he is set to participate in closed-door sessions and bilateral meetings with other world leaders. The summit, hosted by India, is scheduled for September 12-13, 2026, under the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability." Upon his arrival at Palam Air Base, Sisi was received by Indian officials, including Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth and other diplomatic representatives. The Egyptian president's participation highlights Egypt's growing role within the BRICS framework, which now comprises 11 countries: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. Collectively, these members account for approximately 49.5 percent of the global population, 40 percent of global GDP, and 26 percent of global trade. On the sidelines of the summit, Sisi held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday.
