Eguavoen Named Interim Super Falcons Coach
Augustine Eguavoen has been appointed as the interim head coach of Nigeria's Senior Women's National Team, the Super Falcons, ahead of their qualification campaign for the 2028 Olympic Games. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) made the announcement following the dismissal of former head coach Justin Madugu and his technical crew last month. Madugu and his staff were removed after the team failed to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, marking the first time Nigeria would miss the tournament since its inception in 1991. The Super Falcons, who were defending champions in the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, suffered a quarterfinal defeat to Cameroon and a subsequent loss to South Africa in the World Cup qualifying playoff. Eguavoen, a former head coach of the Super Eagles, will lead the team on an interim basis as the NFF continues its search for a permanent successor to Madugu. He brings considerable international coaching experience, having guided the Super Eagles to a bronze medal finish at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
