Ebonyi Gov Warns LG Chairs on 2027 APC Wins
Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has warned newly inaugurated local government chairmen that their positions are contingent on delivering electoral victories for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. Speaking in Abakaliki on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, during the inauguration of the state's 13 local government chairmen and vice-chairmen, Governor Nwifuru declared that any chairman failing to secure their council for the APC would be removed from office and replaced by a councillor. The governor emphasized the expectation that chairmen would strengthen the APC at the grassroots and prevent opposition parties from gaining political traction in their areas. He directed them to work towards delivering 100 percent of the votes in their respective local government areas to the APC in 2027. "I want this information to be on the headlines of newspapers because, as politicians, we would not speak in secret," Nwifuru stated, adding that chairmen who "choose to sleep and allow others to take their areas, they would be removed.
