Eala advances to US Open third round after defeating Oliynykova

Alexandra Eala of the Philippines advanced to the third round of the US Open on Thursday, defeating Ukraine's Oleksandra Oliynykova 6-1, 6-4 in a second-round match at Louis Armstrong Stadium. The victory, secured in just over an hour, continued the 21-year-old's impressive run at Flushing Meadows and was celebrated by a large contingent of Filipino fans in the stands. Eala, the No. 17 seed, dominated the opening set, winning the first four games and striking 11 winners to none from her opponent. She needed only 23 minutes to claim the set 6-1. Oliynykova, who had beaten Eala on clay at the Strasbourg Open in May, showed more resistance in the second set, moving ahead 2-1. However, Eala responded immediately, breaking back to regain control. The players traded breaks in a competitive set, but Eala remained composed, breaking her opponent from the baseline in the seventh game before closing out the match on serve. "I think my patience and the consistency of my focus. I think that was the key to winning the match today," Eala said during her on-court interview. She also spoke about the significance of representing her country. "I'm Filipino and I proudly represent that," she said.
