Dublin to impose security and traffic restrictions for EU meetings

Published 4 November 2026

Dublin will introduce extensive security cordons and traffic restrictions from November 10 to 13 for two European Union meetings, in an operation Gardaí have described as the largest policing and security operation in the State’s history. The European Political Community summit is scheduled for November 12, followed the next day by an informal meeting of EU heads of state. Both events are to be hosted at the Convention Centre Dublin. The Gardaí’s description of the operation’s scale is their own characterization. North Wall Quay is due to close from 7 a.m. on November 10 until the evening of November 13. Gardaí described the closure as extending between Guild Street and New Wapping Street; another published description gave the stretch as between Samuel Beckett Bridge and Spencer Place. The accounts differ on the endpoints, and the precise boundary was not clarified. Traffic will also be restricted around the Convention Centre, with a wider security cordon planned from Wednesday evening. Samuel Beckett Bridge is scheduled to close to traffic from Wednesday evening, with north-south traffic diverted from approach roads. A security cordon around the National Gallery of Ireland...
