Drone from Ukraine Crashes in Romania Near Solca

A drone that entered Romanian airspace from Ukraine crashed near Solca during Russia’s overnight attack on Ukraine, Romania’s Defence Ministry said. The ministry reported no injuries or material damage. Romania scrambled two F-16 fighter jets to monitor the incident, while authorities temporarily suspended classes in several nearby communities. The drone crossed into Romania over Botoșani County and remained in the country’s airspace for about four minutes before coming down near Solca, in Suceava County, according to the ministry’s account. Police secured the crash site, where officials found a small drone. The ministry said there was no fire. Romanian authorities issued alerts to residents in Botoșani and Suceava counties over the risk of falling objects. Schools in several communities were temporarily closed as officials responded. An IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter was also sent to monitor the area, according to the Defence Ministry. Romania reported a separate overnight alert near Chilia Veche, in the Danube Delta region. Two Spanish F-18 fighters on patrol in Romania were activated after drone activity was detected near the border.
