Donnie Darko Sequel Novel Launches Franchise

Richard Kelly, the writer-director of the 2001 cult classic "Donnie Darko," is officially revisiting the film's enigmatic universe with a multi-part sequel project, beginning with a novel set to be published later this year. The first installment, an approximately 800-page book titled "The Philosophy of Time Travel," will be released in the fourth quarter of 2026, coinciding with the film's 25th anniversary. According to reports, the novel is the culmination of more than a decade of writing by Kelly, who has been conceptualizing a sequel for over 20 years. The story picks up 14 months after the death of the titular character, Donnie Darko, and is presented through a "found documents" format.
