Domestic worker arrested in Ameesha Patel family jewellery theft

Published 12 September 2026

Mumbai Police have arrested a 40-year-old domestic worker in connection with the alleged theft of a diamond-studded gold bangle worth approximately Rs 5 lakh from the Churchgate residence of Bollywood actor Ameesha Patel's mother. The accused, identified as Seema Ghate, was taken into custody and remanded to police custody until September 15, according to officials. The investigation began after Asha Patel, the actor's mother, filed a complaint with the Marine Drive police. Police reports state that the bangle was allegedly stolen from the residence in January 2026. Asha Patel reportedly suspected Ghate's involvement and had been asking her for approximately five to six months to admit to the theft and return the jewellery. When the bangle was not returned, Patel approached the authorities. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A crime detection team traced Ghate, a resident of Palghar, to Virar, where she was arrested. The case was initially registered against an unidentified woman before the accused was identified. Ghate had been working at the Patel family home for about one and a half years.
