Dolphins Trade for Packers QB Kyle McCord

The Miami Dolphins have acquired quarterback Kyle McCord from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round draft pick, completing a rapid overhaul of their quarterback room ahead of the 2026 season. The trade, reported on August 30, 2026, comes one day after Miami sent backup Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars for the same draft selection. The move provides the Dolphins with a new backup to starter Malik Willis, who signed a three-year, $67.5 million contract with Miami in the offseason. The acquisition followed the team's decision to waive quarterbacks Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski, leaving McCord as the primary backup. Head coach Jeff Hafley had indicated the team likely would keep only two quarterbacks on its 53-man roster. McCord, 23, was a sixth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2025 NFL Draft and spent last season on their practice squad. He signed a futures contract with the Packers in January after their playoff loss to the Chicago Bears. With Jordan Love and veteran Tyrod Taylor ahead of him on the depth chart in Green Bay, McCord would have been the third-string quarterback.
