DOJ Subpoenas Nevada Election Office on Voters

The U.S. Department of Justice has issued seven voter-related subpoenas to the office of Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar over the past three months, escalating federal pressure on the state’s election administration just weeks before the November 2026 midterm elections. The subpoenas, delivered through the FBI, seek testimony and documentation related to voter information, though the specific records or individuals targeted have not been publicly disclosed. The subpoenas arrive amid a broader federal push to investigate voter rolls for potential noncitizen registrations. In July, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin informed Aguilar that a federal analysis indicated as many as 15,903 noncitizens might be registered to vote in Nevada. Subsequent internal reviews, however, confirmed only 185 potential cases through a manual check, with officials describing the initial figure as a preliminary ceiling estimate. An additional group of roughly 6,200 records was identified as higher-confidence matches still requiring further review.
