DNA Identifies Remains as Missing Student Jason Landry

DNA testing has identified skeletal remains found in Caldwell County, Texas, on September 8 as Jason Landry, a Texas State University student who disappeared in December 2020, the Texas Attorney General’s Office said. The identification resolves who the remains belonged to, but officials said the examination did not establish how or when Landry died. Investigators have reported no indication of foul play. The University of North Texas Center for Human Identification performed the DNA analysis, according to officials. The remains were found by a local resident in Caldwell County, in an area reported to be outside locations covered by earlier searches. Landry’s family has been notified, officials said. Landry was 21 when he disappeared while driving from San Marcos toward his family’s home in Missouri City in December 2020. His car was later found wrecked and abandoned on Salt Flat Road near Luling. His disappearance prompted years of searches and investigative work, but his whereabouts remained unknown until the remains were discovered. The discovery site has not answered how Landry came to be there.
