DMK Names Candidates for Tamil Nadu By-Elections
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has announced its candidates for two upcoming assembly by-elections in Tamil Nadu, scheduled for October 6, 2026. The party revealed I. Paranthaman as its nominee for the Madurantakam constituency and S. Suganya for the Dharapuram constituency. These seats became vacant after the respective legislators from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) resigned and joined the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The Election Commission of India has set the polling date for October 6, with vote counting scheduled for October 9. The nomination process will run from September 9 to September 16, followed by scrutiny on September 17 and the withdrawal deadline on September 19. The Model Code of Conduct has been enforced in both constituencies. DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced the candidates following a meeting with senior party leaders. Paranthaman, who serves as the joint secretary of the DMK legal wing and is a former MLA for Egmore, will contest the Madurantakam reserved constituency. Suganya, an advocate, is the party's candidate for the Dharapuram reserved constituency.
