Disney Clarifies Ad-Free Plans After Agreement Confusion

Published 21 September 2026

Disney has clarified that subscribers to its ad-free Disney+ plans will not see traditional commercial breaks interrupting movies and TV shows, following widespread confusion over an updated subscriber agreement. The company issued the statement after reports emerged that the revised terms, which apply to European users, appeared to allow advertising across all subscription tiers, including the more expensive Standard and Premium plans. The updated agreement, which subscribers were prompted to accept, states that Disney may now include promotional content, sponsorships, and advertisements before and after content playback, as well as in live and special event programming. This language sparked immediate backlash online, with some users sharing screenshots of the terms on forums and social media platforms. The controversy led to reports that ads would be inserted during films and shows on all plans, prompting a wave of subscriber anger. In response, Disney issued a direct denial. The company stated that ad-free subscribers would not experience traditional ad breaks during movies and TV shows.
