Diljit Dosanjh addresses Satluj criticism at Delhi concert

Published 31 October 2026

Diljit Dosanjh addressed criticism of his film Satluj and his earlier distance from a student protest during a Delhi concert on October 30, saying he was staying quiet by choice and that people should not teach Punjabis how to fight. The singer and actor spoke to the audience at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium during the opening night of his Aura India Tour. He said he supported the audience and continued to feel affection for everyone, including people who disliked him. Dosanjh also said his team had fought for a long time to bring Satluj to viewers. The film is based on the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a human rights activist from Punjab. Khalra investigated alleged illegal killings and secret cremations during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He disappeared in 1995; accounts of the film’s subject say he was abducted and killed. Dosanjh’s remarks came amid criticism of his earlier comment that he was an artist, made during the Cockroach Janata Party-led student protest in Delhi. Some critics had objected to what they saw as his decision not to support or join the protest, while the singer’s concert comments connected that debate to the criticism of Satluj.
